well, my guess is this, it was 10 degrees outside, and i hadn't let the car warm up, and I stomped on the gas pedal, so the rubber of the hose wasn't maleable, and a little bit of the pressure build up leaked at one of the fittings. so i don't think its a real "malfunction" that really needs to be addressed, which is why I'd like to reset the CEL and see if it comes back on before I go to a garage with it.

i mean, why is a "small leak" grounds for turning on the CEL? I feel like if they are going to have a code like that it should only activate after repeated small leaks, and not after the first stupid leak. ineed to get a state inspection sticker on this car this week and i can't do that with the CEL on....thanks audi.
if its that small a problem then it will reset on it own by drive cycle but depends on how cold it is there and things freezing up

yeah, thats the thing, i need to get this CEL off like now. how long do I have to drive to shut it off on its own?
also, whats the deal with the purge valve? in your opinion, would you sayits more likely that the valve is cooked, the sensor is cooked, or that this is a one time/intermittent thing that will go away on its own.

Buy an Audi code reader and reset it yourself.

Yeah (sorry to be highjacking) you might think that ND wouldn't have any audi's but I live less than 2 blocks from the local Audi/VW dealer and they have an RS4 for sale if anyone is interested -they also have a Mercedes with Gull wings that sells for 600k we do actually have some money around here I guess - I can't seem to get any of it but the guy in town driving the M6 sure makes me feel small.

follow up:
used a legit mechanics diag, comp to find the real source of this light. flow interruption in the evap system. my mechanic (also my brother, who has a degree in foreign auto repair (yup they have those)) saysit is probablythe solenoid in the evap system that didn't open, and threw the code. He has replaced a number of them. and, contrary to popular belief (ahem, the "experts" on this site) the cold is MOST LIKELY what caused the code to occur, as the valve could have frozen shut. remains to be seen, as the light hasn't come back on since its been reset. Aso, FYI, it is apparently a cheap part and an easy fix if the solenoid is gone.
