have you ever driven a car before?? if the check engine light(CEL) ever comes on you always stop driving it asap!

a majority of the time it is related to emissions, and will be safe to drive on. but, it could be something else which can be doing a lot of harm while driving it.. take it to the dealer or local autozone/checker to get it checked. dealership will rape you though..

once you get the code you can post it here and we will tell you what is wrong.. also, search "VAG COM". it will allow you to pull the codes yourself and do a few other things. look into it..

and yes the A4 is slow. it's a heavy lux sedan with a tiny little engine and tiny little turbo

just because nothing changed doesn't always mean that something isn't wrong. but they usually charge about 5 bucks. or they are nice and let you do it for free. just depends

most likely, no. don't worry about it. just go get it scanned. it's most likely something like an o2 sensor or something. just in the future when the CEL comes on, don't drive it unless necessary

If your check engine light goes on and stays on, you should have it looked at as soon as possible but you don't have to stop driving the car. Steady CEL is usually an emissions related problem (EVAP leak, O2 sensor, running too rich or lean, etc.). But if your CEL is FLASHING, you should pull over, since these sorts of faults (usually misfires) can damage your catalytic converter.
