Default check oil light on 99 a4 1.8

i did search on this topic. the thing is that i'm getting a full oil reading on the dip stick. might this mean something is clogged (sludged up)? it could be a bad oil pump also, right? it's my brothers car, and i'd hate to see it go poof. the kid drives like 200 mi a day average, so if it's not getting oil, we should find out pretty quick. also, what's the best way to get all of the old oil out of the system when changing it? if i drain the turbo lines (turbo), that should rid the system of all the old oil right? but most importantly, please get back to me with some information on what could cause the check oil light to come on, when the oil level is full. thanks in advance. great forum. wish i could be here more. ty

should be able to just drain the oil like normal... I dont see why you would have to take the turbo line off to do it

If he has the red oil light on, he should not drive the car at all.

Have it towed to Audi, along with all records of on time oil changes.

It is a lot cheaper to drop the oil pan and clean the pickup screen and/or replace the oil pump, than it is to replace the engine.

Never drive a car with the Oil pressure light on.

thanks for backing me on that. this way there's two people telling him he shouldn't drive it at all. also, when i checked the oil level yesterday, i noticed that the turbo/manifold setup was super hot (my brother allways lets the car cool before shutting down). i know these setups run hot, but i think this was an advanced hot (another sign of poor oil pressure). anyway, this oil screen/pump fix: it should be a cake job right. or a walk in the park? the car is not covered by audi any more, so i was maybe going to fix it myself. has anyone completed such a job, or has had the oil pan off? it should just consist of dropping the pan and removing the oil pump bolts to put the new pump in. i only ask because audis have surprised me with extra steps/things, when i've done repairs to them in the past. i told him to get a service manual for the car when he purchased it, but no manual yet. if someone can tell me, that doing this job is just like any other oil pump replacement, we'll go to audi, and purchase the pump and the service manual.

not to bring it up again, but it was not the oil pressure light turning on, yet the thoughtfull computer "check oil light". it was informing me that i should check my oil every 10,000 miles. this was very thoughtfull indeed, though the day i let an oil change go to 10, 000 miles, is the day i should never own a nice car. also, i meant the OIL PICKUP, is under the oil pan, and not the oil pump was under the oil pan (my mistake). my brothers Audi is fine, and always was. thanks, and hope to be here again
