UPDATE: Took pride and joy back to the shop, where mechanic said, "With 2001s you can either do a port flash or a bench flash. I guess it didn't like the port flash, so I'm gonna do a bench flash." Problem solved? OF COURSE NOT. Still the same stumble, it can get pretty bad from 2.5 - 4K RMP or at full/nearly full throttle, especially when I drive hard or for a long time around town. Even worse, now I'm getting MIL warnings (Malfunction Indicator Lamp). I STFA and yes, the gas cap is tight.

What good is fancy programming if the engine doesn't like it? Any ideas - please help!

I forget the VAG-COM #s, but I pulled two 3rd Cyl misfire codes, one intermittent, and the other...well I don't remember. So its either plugs, coils, or injectors. Anyone wanna wager on which it is??

If its coils or injectors, is there any point in trying to upgrade, considering I don't plan on any future mods?

BTW Panda how did u no I spent 800

Chip, DV, oil + big filter, labor.

Yes, I know its a bit much [:@] But not an overwhelmingly horrible rip-off.
Would those injectors do anything for a GIAC? How much were they?
