Default Chipping an A4 with high mileage.

Hey guys,

I recently bought a used 1999.5 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. My other car is a supercharged Mustang so I'm kind of spoiled when it comes to power, but the Audi is just dead slow.

I know the turbo is working as I can hear it spool, and the car doesn't feel like it is lagging, it just feels like a heavy car with AWD and 150HP. [:'(]

I want to chip the car, but it has 100,000 miles on it. I know the chip will usually up the boost from around 8PSI to 17 or so. I'm hoping it will make a pretty big difference, but I'm afraid about adverse effects to the engine.

How safe is it to chip this car?

Thanks,
-Brian

you will be fine, as long as you keep the car maintained it will last chipped for another 100k and go with GIAC they are much better that APR

A lot of people do more than a chip after 100k miles... It will be fine. +1 for GIAC.

I'll stick up for APR (chipped now with 152K miles and rolling).

I don't see how GIAC is better. APR will give you 200 HP and 243lbs of torque. You'll also have the ability to switch from stock to chipped modes by simply pushing in the cruise control button. I've really enjoyed this feature. I figure the more you drive in stock mode the better. When you want to have some fun, just switch it on.

I figure you are silly... You can drive conservatively with GIAC and still get 30-33 mpg on the highway and chose when you really want to just switch it on and decrease the mpg like with APR .. APR is alright, smooth, but GIAC is way more aggressive. I have yet to see someone's actual dyno sheet that is APR chipped to see what the actual numbers are, so I sorta doubt that what APR claims is true... I have driven both and GIAC is just so aggressive in in the first couple gears and then it just winds up really well after about 55mph and keeps momentum... APR was smooth but just didnt seem to get up and going as fast at least in the first couple gears.

Just kind of a side thought since I will be chipping my A4 with 120K, I hear you should get a diverter valve as well, is this true? What else should I look for when I chip it?

Yes, upgrade the diverter valve. The inexpensive way is to get a 710N which was used on the TT.
