Chipping My A4?
Hey---
This is my first post on the forum and I was wondering if the cpu uprade (or chipping, whatever) is the easiest and most bang for the buck upgrade I can put in it? I know that currently stock im trotting to 60 around 8 flat...what would a good chip put me at...and would I have to do any other engine modifications? I am really just trying to boost performance without flattening my bank account...
Thanks for your time,
Danny

Danny, welcome to the forums. To answer your question in short, yeah, probably the best bang for the buck. Try the search option at the bottom of the page, there are many posts that cover this topic.
Thanks for the fast reply...
I recently did a search and I found this voids the factory warranty.
Is there any way to have the dealer install it or something? I really want to get some performance gains but i have 2 years left on the warranty...my dad would kill me.

The dealers won't have any part of that. Most don't even like working on chipped cars. There is another option, but it kind blows the "flattening the bank account" thing. You can buy another ECU and chip it, then when you have to take the car in for service swap the chipped ECU for the stock one. Not cheap though.
get the giac or apr switch program and have a toggle switch mounted under the steering columb someware that is hard to find. get a black rocker switch so its not obvious. when you take it to the dealer just switch it.
I think APR does switching real slick with using the cruise control arm and blinking check engine lights in code. For about 800$ you can run 4 different programs such as stock, 93/91 octane, valet, anti theft.

First off it doesn't necesarily void your warrenty. For example, I have a few performance mods installed, if one of them were to cause the transmission or mass air flow sensor to break I'd have to pay for it. Everything else is covered under warrenty. The dealer can also still update my ECU (as long as I put it on stock settings when I bring it into the dealership) because I have two settings on it; stock (which the dealer can put their updated ECU software on) and performace. I would talk to someone in your dealership in the service dept. the salesmen don't know jack **** about modding and they'll likely tell you anything you do will void your warrenty.
If you get GIAC chip get 2 programs, performace and stock and when you bring it back to the dealer you put it on stock. Get the flashloader, its how you change programs.
