...I'm going back to Mercedes, at least their product is good and reliable. I'm a student and can't afford these repairs. Now, I'm looking into buying a 98/99 C-Class Sport Kompressor. My parents told me to stick to the Benz!
Good luck to you, but before getting into W202 body - visit club202.com and search around for the problems I've owned W202, two MAF sensors, calipers, steering issues, climate control issues, interior noises, cracking in the wood trim and to top it all off - transmission and torque converter had to be replaced at just before 50k miles... Thanks to the factory warranty, no expenses out of my pocket, but sold the car after 2 eyars of ownership... Newer generation MB are far from being trouble free and reliable, just my $0.2

i have a 95 c220 and a 98 a4. gotta say, the benz is more reliable than my 98 audi. out of a reliability list for the 3 germans, it's benz (the best), bmw then audi (the worst). but a benz is not trouble free either, gotta agree that most of the parts are cheaper than audi's parts at the dealers. i just got a audi cuz i wanted a 5spd and didn't like the bmw (94-98) interiors for the price i wanted to spend. if benz made a slick 5spd (not the nasty one in the slk), i'd get one in a heart beat.

Well i would stay with audi.. we had both my '05 Audi A4 1.8T and my Gf's '05 benz C230 Sport Kompresser. The results from the snow drifting... The benz is all screwed up and in the shop for a whole new steering assembly!!!!only 5 minutes of drifting and doing doughnuts for it before it busted!!! for me, 2 hours of pure snow fun and not one prob... STICK TO THE AUDI

Even if his problem is cheap to fix not everyone wants to work on their car twice a week, I'm guessing it's more the concept that there's always something wrong (because for most of us B5ers, there really is). As far as reliablity (for new model years) I'd say BMW and Merc. or both up there together (my dad's leased both and the Merc. had a few more problems but never anything major). Audi is pretty good from what I hear now but I know in the early-mid 90's they had a lot of issues and as much a I hate to say it things like that don't just go away.
