Default Clunky Gearbox

Hi Folks

My A4 (2003) has just over 70,000 miles on the engine and gearbox . I only have it about 6 weeks , but I noticed that 1st and 2nd gear are occasionally clunky when shifting gear . Sometimes when stopping at a traffic light , changing to 1st requires a little push , it doesnt just pop into gear. Changing from 1st to Second , and you get a little clunk also .. the rest of the gears are fine and there is no audible noise or whine coming from the gears .

Could this be a sign of worn gears ? Should I check anything ? Is this common ?

cheers
Martin

is it grinding kind of as you put it into 2nd? mine barely grinds from 2nd to 3rd when i throw it up (softly it works fine). i am planning on getting redline transmission fluid to fix it. it has the appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers (many gear oils engine oils and ATFs are too slippery for proper synchro engagement).

heres the info and site where u can buy it:

Hey

Thanks . Yeah kinda clunks , not always but maybe 40% of the time when i am driving .

I was thinking of putting some type of transmission additive into it . That means that you would have to partially drain some fluid and replace with the transmission fluid ?

I would stick with Redline but if you think that will do the trick then you can go for it.

the syncros suck and a swap to redline RT-90 oil will help eliminate most if not all of the "clunking"

He said its the2003 model. I was under the impression the B6 has a "lifetime" trans oil and locking plug.

Hi

No it can happen at any time really . And yes I know you have to completely stop to put it into 1st . Its not really bad , but its just enough to be noticeable . I think I will try the Redline if I can get my hands on some . I am in Ireland so I am not familiar with that brand over here.
