Ok guys,

A quick background...throwing misfire cylinder 3 codes for weeks. Changed coil pack + spark plugs, get the code cleared then after an hour or so of driving the CEL comes on and the coil pack pops out!

The car threw 7 codes today! misfiring in all cylinders, im at this new mechanic now (don't have a vagcom yet!!!) so he can clear the codes but he said they're probly due to the fact #3 keeps popping out and throwing the grounds all out of wack.

Anyone ever heard of this happening? mechanic never, dealership said the same.

I'm getting another coil from the dealership tomorow in HOPE this one may be faulty. If not....what can i do to get that little bastard to stay put!!!

Use soem bubble gum

 

It is b/c the spark plug is loose and the compresion pop up the coil pack.

 

use the washers that come with the spark plug and torque them down

 

This is fairly common. If you do a search on here you will see a picture of a coil pack that went though the lining on the under side of the hood.

Your dealer should know about this issue. It's been happening for years.

 

my 2002 a4 1.8T started rough idling and shaking, the check engine light started flashing. I drove homeabout a mile uphill and the exhaust pipe after the turbo was glowing, my spark plug in cylinder 3 was loos and fouled, the colpack looked toasted. I replaced the coilpack from audi in just that cylinder, and all spark plugs with NGK's. IT is still runni bad and check engine is flashing. Any suggestions anyone.

 

my cheap and effective solution. About $10 at lowes and no more popping up.

 

Or you could go with Hitachi "E" coilpacks. They work awesome.

That is what is on my TT and i wouldnt change it. But if you have new or slightly used packs, i wouldnt waste my money on a new set.

 

I like Cincy TT's solution, even if the spark plug is torqued down there is still a possibility of air blowing past the spark plug, even more so at higher boost applications.
