Default Commuting My A4

Ok I have my A4 now and its great but sadly I can't justify dropping any really good mods into it because I need the car to commute to work everyday in. My commute is about 120 miles everyday and it is killing me to have to put that kind of miles on my beautiful A4 five days a week.

Any tips for a fresh faced audi owner on increasing MPG and decreasing wear and tear due to long commute?

theres nothin really you can do besides regualr maintance
make sure ur oil is good and ur 02 sensors are good also casue those really take a hit to ur MPG
and besides highway miles are better on the engine then street driving

Its an 2001.

Thanks, I thought originally I could do something with the intake or exhaust but looking around the boards here it seems the A4 pretty easy breathing to begin with.

Chip it - It won't affect your MPG and will be much (MUCH) more fun to drive during the commute. Leave everything else alone - this one mod (+ maybe a DV) will make all the time you spend in it worthwhile....

Find a new job??? Deffinately chip it though.. It will actually help your mpg on the highway if you are semi lightfooted.

It is an automatic. Would that make chipping it less useful? Would drving it around in manumatic with a chipped program save any gas?

well if you chip your car you will raise yoru boost. and more boost = more fuel = less mpg. it would make the drive more fun. however if you chip it and you stay out of boost ie. dont floor it all the time your mpg wont be hurt

I commute 150 miles per day. My 2000 1.8T quattro tip now has 151K miles. I chipped it 80K miles ago.

Increased my highway miles by about 1 mpg.

If you want to increase your mileage, you can inflate the fires hgiher pressure,. The only other way is to slow down.

Make sure that your oxygen sensor is OK otherwise you will run rich.

ya i noticed a 3mpg increase on the highway after i got chipped when driving conservatively. any tuner will tell you that too because its a major selling point asside from the power increases.
