Default Concern about check engine light

I just recently got a 98 audi a4 2.8Q, in manual transmission. After driving around a lot, I've noticed that my check engine light came on, and stayed on for about a day, and then it came off and stayed off for about a day, yet now it is back on. I intend on taking to get a scan for the code, but its thanksgiving here (in Canada), and everything is closed for now. I was wondering if anyone else with manual trans experiences this activity with the check engine light regularly. As well, I noticed that sometimes when I shift, there is a slight jerk, especially when I double clutch. How smooth are your shifts? and, if you do double clutch, how smooth do you find it? (Is the effect of the double clutching rough on the audi or should I adjust my technique?)

*I have heard both good and bad things about double clutching, from professionals and lay people alike.

Maybe bad MAF or coil pack. CEL's are usually related to emission parts, and if you have jerking it could be one of those parts gone bad. No one will know until you post the fault codes.

You can get the codes scanned at your local auto parts store.

Are you sure they do it in Canada. You could buy a VAG-COM or a code reader.

I have yet to find an autoparts store that "vag" our cars. im in the GTA of ontario and the only places i have found that scan our cars are audi/vw shops and audi dealerships which cost 80 bucks. audi/vw shops cost 10-20 bucks.

I'm in the GTA as well. Many places do it, at least from my perspective. I go to MegaAuto in Brampton where I live. They specialize in Brampton. They'll do it for like 35 dollars
