Control module flash history
Just found out an interesting bit of info.
Most of the time a factory scan tool cannot detect a chiped vehicle. However on all the new vehicles(latest body styles both vw and audi) there is supposed to be a value block that records control modules flash history. Telling how many times a module has been reflashed. It doesnt tell by who or with what info, its more of a record of flashes. At this point it seems more like beta test than a surefire method, and its really not designed to find chipped vehicles. More for techs to find out weather an update has been performed or not.

RE: Control module flash history
I have been holding off on bringing my car to the dealer because I thought they would know the second they hooked it up to the computer that I was chipped. I brought it in a couple of months ago for a CEL and when I went to pick it up they asked me if it was chipped. But then again I have a boost gauge and they may have caught on when it boosted at 19psi. Thanks for the info dankhound, I will be less nervous to bring it to the dealer now to have it tuned up and checked out.

Just driving the car will allow a tech to know a car is chipped. For the most part its really not a big deal for dealerships thou. Unless you have premature major engine or transmision failure, chip interfering with diagnosis, a chip obviosly causing a part to fail, or a chip causing strange drivablitly concerns, most dealerships will have no problem fixing your car under waranty. The only issue ive had with a chipped vehicle concern not being covered under warranty was a car that blew the intake hose from the intercooler off the intake manifold. Obviously caused by the higher boost from a chip.
