Default Coolant leak

I have a 2005 A4 1.8T Quattro with 21k miles. I have recently been smelling coolant from the engine bay and now each morning I have a steam of coolant on the ground. I have had the car to the dealer who replaced a coolant pipe, but I still have the same problem and it is back with the dealer again.

Anyone else with a similar problem or have a suggestion?

Teke it back and have them give you a loaner while they are repairing it.

The dealer has at least let me have a loaner. First it was a new Q7. Interesting vehicle. Now I am driving a new A4 2.0 front wheel CVT.

They told me today that there was a factory memo on this problem and they say it is now fixed. Why it took two visits for them to realize this is yet to be determined. I will see if it still leaks when I get it back which I cant wait to do, because I like it a lot better than the 2.0 that I have now.

did they tell you what the memo was? I've already had our 04 A4 1.8T in once for a major leak. They fixed it under warantee. Our of warantee now my wife noticed it was down again. She added some coolant and it seems ok so far but we'll see. I think this is where it's leaking. Looks like just a cap screw with a washer into the top radiator pipe. What is it for and why would it be leaking. If i just tighten it up is it ok or does it need a new washer/gasket?

Looks like a bleeder valve. I would remove it, clean it and the area around it and watch for leaks in the future, if it leaks again replace the gasket.

My work order says Replaceed Oring per tech bullet IN A190503

Please note that I had a visible amount of fluid on the ground. There was no question where my fluid was going. They apparently have it fixed now after two tries. Dont know why they missed the bulletin the first time.

good luck

What and where is the flange?

I saw in another post that it might be a difficult thing to change and it might be a couple of hundred dollars for the dealer to change it.
