Cost of Maintenance - B5 A4
The only way you can inspect the timing belt is if you remove the bumper, lock carrier and expose the engine. If the timing belt is relatively new it should be possible to check for wear. But the only way you really know is if you replace the belt entirely. However they also replace the roller and tensioner when doing the belt, so if both of these parts are substantially newer than the rest, chances are that the TB service was made.
the 70k limit on the TB service comes from the roller not the TB itself. It seems that the stock roller starts having issues anywhere betwwen 60k-90k. However, when you do the TB service (and u replace the roller) the new set should hold until 90k, so your answer is about 90k (The TB service for newer audis seems to have a increased interval).
But if you want to be on the safe side you can replace it every 70k, but Im not sure if that's absolutely necessary.

Isee Isee, so about 80K then...not that bad. If one was to get it repaired in a shop for $900, and I drive 80K in about 3 Years, looking at $300 a year going towards TB.
Control arms is also about 70-80K and about the same price parts+labor ($900).
So that brings it a def. $600 per year needs to be saved up to get those 2 parts replaced.
Anything else?
