I did some reading on this topic and saw people talking about replacing the whole pan. Could i take off the bottom half and put on a new/used bottom half, or is that hard to find?

If its a 1.8T engine there is only the one oil pan and yes you can just replace that by itself and be fine, if its a 2.8L and you damaged just the lower oil pan you can purchase just the lower oil pan for about $160 from audi or try and find it in a junk yard as Cincy TT said. You will need the liquid oil pan gasket tube from audi though.

just get under your car, you will have to remove over a dozen small hex bolts. Take the bottom half off, make sure you get all the old gasket off, put a new gasket on and bolt on the new bottom. Check out www.autohausaz.com for it. I paid less than $150 for pan and gasket.
I was about to start crankin the hex's off, but what do i do about the sway bar that goes underneathe the back side of the oil pan? I can't access the back bolts with this in the way. I started to loosen this bar up where its mounted to the motor mounts but realized that putting the bolts back on would be difficult without a torque wrench. What do i do about this bar?

I think you have to lift the engine. Not a simple job.
what about removing the sway bar, I started to loosen one of it's bolts, how should i tighten it back up? would a torque wrench be able to tighten it up?
Def. low torque on those bolts, came off real easy. So if i could just remove the sway bar i would be golden. onepoint8tee: I'm trying to remove just the bottom half of the pan. Does that make a difference on lifting the engine?
