my guess would be because the drive train still routes through the torsen center diff, thus still causing parasitic loss on the way to the rear wheels... totally not defending the guy. he seems like a tool, but mechanically I'd think that's why you would ditch the AWD system completely.
That being said, to to a motor, dranny, and drivetrain swap, you'd BETTER know someone to do it cheap, cause it's plumb retarted. you can buy a car with the trim level and motor choice you want for what I'd think it'd cost.

fdw loss is around 12ish %, rwd is about 14%, and awd is about 21%. but with that kind of power, use FWD to save power, it doesnt matter how much power you have, u cant put it to the ground well. thats y u see civics that are totally done up for drag run 12's, and awd or rwd cars can do that without even having drag slicks.
