If thats anything like the b6 cup holder I would just leave it stuck shut. It is completely useless as a cup holder.

I just bought a 2000 A4, and I have to total opposite issue. My cupholder comes out, but it only slides about 80% of the way in. I can't seem to figure out why it won't slide all the way in.

Yeah, I got an 03 A4 and it takes a few minuets of pushing the cupholder before it comes out... and once you get it out you realize it has no ability to actually hold a cup. Instead you accelerate slightly and the your large dr.pepper nearly flips on the floor. Amusing.

Perhaps it is better called a "CAN" holder. It will hold a 12 oz. soda can nicely, but any top-heavy cup is going to spill. Those go into the center console cupholders when I have them in my car. Even then, hope nobody makes me slam on the brakes or else I'll get to repeat the task I had a few months ago of removing 32 ounces of Sierra Mist from the carpets. []

I just popped mine out of the dash and soaked it in dish ditergent and water for about a day, regreased it (wd40 dissolves grease) and put it back in. It has worked like a champ eversince.
My fog lights stopped working and I did the brake light mod, so I took out the buttons on the other side and put in another cup holder. so now i have 2.

Hi Everyone... I have the opposite problem. In July I bought a '99 A6 (first Audi), love the car, it is the first car for which I have ever considered myself a real fan!!! My dash cup holder won't stay closed. I have to play with it for several minutes before it will hold and if it is cold outside it is even more difficult. I can feel the catch trying to hold but it takes a bit of attention to get it to engage. Anybody have a similar problem? Any ideas on fixing it?
