so i should not down shift with it open, just like put the car in nuetral and slow down. also what is the size of a stock 01 a4 exhaust

no it will happen as the rev's fall down. it happend to me all the time and i had a muffler. when i did the straight pipe it was intense. loved it but father hated it

ya i know i might get pulled over, but wouldn't it work to just dis connect the exhaust from the muffler thats essentially what the cutout does, but this would be free. i did it on my explorer lol

well that cut out you would put just after the dp. that way it dosent have to take all those bends and it could exit quicker. just removing the muffler would still make the exhaust travel a long ways through lots of bends and a small pipe

There wouldnt be a whole heck of a lot of power increase, maybe 5-10hp on a turbocharged car, also noticable would be the boost spooling up earlyer.

And you only want a 3in cutout if you have a 3in exhaust..

BUT I am a firm believer that all exhausts should have cutouts... for race days.. 3 twists of the bolts and your good for some Goooood music. Its so much easyer than pulling the exhaust.

ya backfire will happen mid rpms' on down when on decel.

you could just get a really good flowing 3" exhaust and your problem is solved. you have the power all the time. no need to crawl under the car.
