Default Decision time...

I'm purchasing my Audi this week!

2 choices

1-'02 3.0 quattro 6 spd. with sport package and 140k= $13,000
or
2- '01 1.8t 5 spd. with sport package and 87k= $12500

I'm concerned about the mileage on the '02, so i'm leaning toward the 2001.

Please weigh in with your choice/opinions/etc. I have no immediate mod plans for at least a year or two. Both are clean, but the '02 has a new set of wheels and tires.

Thanks guys. I look forward to your opinions.

I'd keep looking u should be able to find an 01 with 50-60k for $13-14,000. The miles on both your selections are pretty high for the $ and a risk if the timing belt has'nt been changed.

There is a guy on here in your area that contacted me when I was looking for my car.(same as what your looking for) He was to far for me to travel, but had a lot of cars. He buys at auctions for dealers I believe. Look around on the for sale section and you might find him.

Bump

Anyone else? Timing belt on the '01 w/ 87k was done at 80k. I'll do mods (eventually), but i'm looking for a sweet car with some life left on it and these #$*&ers are hard to find out my way, especially with a MT.

I know you dont want to hear this but be patience. I was in your shoes 1 1/2 months ago, it took me a month to finaly find this car 270 miles away! I am very picky! I wanted a 01 *silver* or black A4 1.8T Q MANUAL (hard to find for some reason) with less than 60k. I drove 270 miles to MI. to buy my car. Black 01 1.8T Q w/sport pk. w/65k. Dealers by me tried to sell them for $14+ but i would'nt break down. You WILL get your car.

Well, at least you had luck. What did you end up spending?
I've already begun expanding my search parameters and become willing to travel. I've also come to the realization that dream cars don't fall into your lap.
It may take some time ( already on-line 4 hours daily on the prowl), but i'll find her...
Thanks,
Ian

Ian,

If you're into modding get a 1.8t. Check kbb and edminds.com car values and see how much you SHOULD be spending on those cars. Maintenance is key, if you don't have documented proof of a timing belt being done than expect to do it yourself or have a shop do it.

I ended up paying $13,500 for my car. I found it on ebay the guy wanted me to put $$$ in his acount before picking up the car. I told him I would'nt give him a dime without looking and driving it first, so I waited for the auction to end drove up there and bought it.

wood_e,
Probably no mods yet... at least until I can talk my wife into it. My other ride is an 04 Subaru Forester Turbo, which only puts out 210 hp, but that's why I love light cars. As I like to say, its the wagon that leaves all of those modded Hondas in the dust, and still is totally stock. I'd love to at least chip, filter, and do a diverter on the 1.8.
What's the T-belt replacement price (thru a shop)?

you'll find what you're looking for, it just takes some time

i got an '01 1.8t manual with sport package and every option other than the bose stereo with about 65k miles last year for 13700. i thought it was a pretty good deal and the car is perfect.
