Default Declaring car as gift or lower value..

So if i buy that 2000 a4 tomorrow with 83k miles.
Can i put on the Ny DMV form that i bought if from a private seller for $500 and he would be willing to sign it too.
will they charge me the book value on it?
also what if i just put gift?

if you get your car for a certain amt below book, you get taxed extra, at least in pa. thats what happened with me.

in cali they tax you based on whatever you write down.

in new mexico you pay the tax on what you :say" you payed for it .
you could put 500.

i hate cali with all there rules and stuff ...it makes the rest of the country suffer car wise

those are both rishy, car tax is like 10% value of the car in cali so just write it as is dont rish it over like a few hunreded dollars (100-500)
u dont wanna get a big fine and stuff from the state now

they cant prove what u bought it for, unless they got warrants for the sellers bank account. And they wont go thru the troble, but u do what u want, i wouldn't cause i wouldnt risk it for any amount of moeny.

it would only save u about 200 bucks if u lower it to much they will know somethings up. also do u wnat to see them take your car back if by some chance they figure it out, but if u were gonna do it make sure u save alot of money or at least enough for a mod.
