Default Discolored Aluminum Trim

I ran my A4 Cabriolet through a car wash and now my aluminum trim has discolored. The dealer told me there wasn't much I could do, besides put some wax on it, which would only help temporarily. Has anyone had this problem and does anyone have any suggestions on how I can restore the trim to original luster?

It's the trim that goes around the windshild, and also the trim that goes around the top of the back seat (where the convertible top meets the trunk.

Are you sure the trim isn't chrome? If it's chrome then I'm sure using chrome polish would take care of the discoloration.
