Disconnected Battery, Reconnected > car Won't Start
I have a 1998 Audi A4. The car was running fine. I had the "Air Bag" Indicator appear on my speedometer. The dealer told me it was the Driver Air bag that gives this error code.
I didn't want to fix it. Some folks suggested me to disconnect the battery which will probably clear the Air Bag Indicator. So I disconnected the Battery for like 1 minute and reconnected right away.
Problem >>******* The car then wouldn't start******. It cranks but doesn't start. !!
I got the battery & alternator tested > they were both good.
I contacted Audi dealer and they said the Computer might have put the engine in some type of SAFE MODE which doesn't allow the car to stop normally AND they adviced me to bring the car in so they can RESET this.
Have anyone ever encountered this WEIRD, STUPID, UNHEARD of ISSUE before?
Any helps would be nice.
thanks

Start with a throtle body adaptation. Needs (should) be done whenever the battery is reconnected after being disconnected. Turn the key to the ACC/ON position (without starting the engine) and wait about 3 minutes. You should hear some humming/clicking noises coming from the throtle body. After that try to start it, and of course check the fuses related to engine operation like the ECU fuse, fuel pump fuse, etc.
I tried to do the "throttle body alignment" as you adviced. > Car cranked and cranked butcouldn't start still. Tried a few times, still the car couldn't start. I then check all the fuses, everything was good.
Even though I do not know anything about car, but this honestly is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.
Again, do you think after I disconnected the battery, could the Car computer sets to "Safe mode" or "idle mode" which doesn't let the gas go in the engine or something that causes the car not able to start?
I read through some VAGCOM instructions, it says that we should use the "Basic setting" to reset this mode or something? Im not sure..
Anyone ever experienced this issue and know what to do. Please advice.
thanks

Someone came with a ODBII scanner and the result is: The Coolant Sensor is bad.
Is it true that if the Coolant sensor is bad, then the car won't start? I just want to make sure before I buy the part. Also you think this is something I can do myself?
thanks for your help !

same damn thing here, I have a 99 a4 and currently going through the exact same issue. Had the dealer work on it for me and cost 550.00 and they told me the throttle body was bad,,,today I put the 349.00 throttle body n and still the same crap...
You can hold the pedal to the floor and crank it it will start after about a min. But its a pain in the A___.

Bought the VAG tool. Reset the Throttle Body Alignment and the car starts again. This was a definitely a pain in the A** the way Audi designed it this way. POOR design > may be they just want to get more money out of the consumers by making us bringing the car to the dealer and have them reset it for like 2 mins and charge couple hundred dollars for it.
The vag tool is priceless (if its vag com that youre talking about) and makes owning an Audi a lot less of a PITA. It will pay for itself over and over if you intend to keep the car for a while. Most times you can just turn the key to on (without starting) and wait a few mins and the TB will re align itself... Somtimes not, and Im not sure what that depends on. Glad you figured it out though.
