Scuff the surface, prime w/ adhesion promoter, paint (a few cotes), and clear cote. Yes paint the black plastic under the front bumper.

Quoting an older post from flyinb:

I got the paint from a place called spaceage auto paint. Its radiant silver by duplicolor so you can get it anywhere they sell duplicolor. If you have a silver car its great because this particular shade of silver by duplicolor is a perfect match and its cheap.

ooo i dunno mang...

i would say remove all the panels from the car and then have it professionally painted. if you're gonna paint it with like spray paint i have a feeling it wont come out very nicely...

i say go get it professionally painted... might cost a bit more... but do it once and do it right!

especially with something that can either turn out REALLY NICELY or become a horrible eyesore!!!

good call, go professional. i painted a piece of trim on my BMW once and it turned out like ****. good thing (sarcasm) i hit a deer the next week and had the front end re-painted anyway. unless you can set up a paint booth, have a spray gun, etc. then it pays to go pro.

Dude, its really not that hard, and if somehow you f*** it up you can always still have it done professionally. It only cost me like $50 to do so whats the worse that can happen. As long as you take your time it will turn out great. I did mine a few months ago and they still look awesome. I think I used like 3 or 4 of the big spray cans of radiant silver by duplicolor. Don't listen to these guys just do it!

Here's some pics. I found it was really easy to leave everything on and just mask. Plus that way you get a nice line on the sides.

Thanks 501.

I've been looking for the DIY lower paint steps for a while too.
