Default Do Audi's actually break down a lot?

Hi, I'm a noobie to the Audi cars. I'm getting a 99 A4 1.8TQM soon...but a lot of people say that Audi's break down and have lots of problems, and I shouldn't get it. I have this cheap 98 Civic Coupe, and I want to get rid of it already. I've always loved Audi's expecially the B5 Chassis, but these opinions held me back. Is it true to these rumors? [:@]

keep in mind u are buying a 7 year old car.. and they are sports cars of sorts i guess... but with good maintinance they are very reliable. my dad has a 98 a6 1.8t 5 speed with 430,000 km on it without problems! mine has 50k without a problem but i would think that they are high maintinance than a civic, they require TLC

If you are looking for reliability, stick with your civic.

If you want performance and luxury, the audi is it, but it requires a much stricter schedule of maintenance.

Trust me, its well worth it, but you have to be willing to accept the fact that it takes a little more to maintain. If you DIY, then you will be fine, or if you have a lot of $$$$.

To add to that: just remember 1.8T is more of performance and luxury and the 2.8 engine is more reliability+luxury......

I went from the 00 Civic to a B7 A4.
The Civic definitely seems more reliable from my mind and what I did with experience in the Civic.

Now that I have the B7, I don't want to beat on it... But it's definitely a nice upgrade and does take a lot more $$$ to maintain.
If it was me, I would have stuck with my Honda/Acura line, but I'm not complaining about the Audi, it's nice and saves more gas than my Civic =)

I don't know much about the cost of fixing an Audi, but I'm willing to pay the extra $$$ just to own an A4. I'm getting a 98 A4 2.8Q this wednesday. I wanted the 1.8TQ, but for now, i'll just get the 2.8 since i'm on a low budget. But yea...my civic is pretty beat up by now and it's time for me to upgrade. Thanks from replying guys...
