Do Audis need a "Special" Alignment?
I am about to put new tires on my car this week (Goodyear assurance Tripletred - and I am so looking forward to it). I am also thinking of fixing the wheel alignment problem i have been noticing recently. One of the tire shops told me that my car, and for that matter all audis, require a special kind of alignment that not every alignment equipment can do. And that I need to look for a speciality alignment store (if not the audi dealership itself) to do this. Is this true? Anyone?
Thanks in advance!
Oh yeah, I drive an 2001 A4 2.8L AWD

i've heard a few people say they can't be done everywhere, but i called about 7 or 8 shops in my area and they all said it was np...just call around before you get it done..i got a pretty broad price range...i think it was 100-220 and everywhere in between..
Actually it depends on the car, i needed a 3-D alignment, most places have this alignment tool. I forgot the other type of alignment tool, but since my car is lower and has bigger wheels i needed a 3-d alignment. Mainly because the other type of alignment tool couldn't get an accurate reading, so the 3-d one has sensors that are mounted onto the wheel and reflect back to the computer and gives it your readings. A four wheel alignment shouldn't be no more than $100, i got mine for $60 at bridgestone.
Thanks for the replies folks.
True that most places do a 4 wheel alignment and so does the goodyear store, the manager of which told me that the alignment for a quattro audi is different from other 4 wheel alignments. Like he was talking about times having the need to take the steering wheel apart to align the wheels ( baffled, I was). So I started asing around and every other alignment shop told me its that the alignment for a AWD audi is not any different from a typical 4 wheel alignment. I think may be the majority is right and the godyear guy just didnt want to align my car.
So, i am going to go to this local big o tires store who apparently has a "state-of-the-art" alignment machine. He is going to charge me 39.99 for the front wheels and 69.99 for all wheels if needed. He showed me the machine that would let the tires "float" on 4 pads connected to a computer that would the help with the perfect alignment job. Well lets see how that goes....
