I have a '99 1.8T that I purchased a few months ago. I put in a new timing belt, water pump, etc. Car has 80K on it. Has never been quick off the line.

My friend just bought a '96 1.8T The car pulls considerably harded and I can hear the turbo. The car is stock and has no aftermarket goodies.

I hear zero turbo noise from my 99

It runs and drives fine. What is the culprit? And what am I looking @ for replacement

He is chipped.

 

With a vag-com, you can check and log boost to see if your turbo is working.

It could be that your diverter valve has worn out, or that, in fact his car is chipped.

 

his is a 2.8 caise there was no 1.8t in 96

 

Also david he is 99 so there is no map sensor making vag-com usueless when finding boost

 

or his dv could be shot ....

just go to awe tuning and click on their baily diverter valve and they have intstalation instructions with pics....... i dont like the baily but i used there instructions to install mine
