i personaly have only put on wax and buffed ect. by hand. i havent spend the 20 dollars to put into a cheap buffer at the local car shop. i am curious to see if those electric buffers really are that much better for applying and buffing the wax ? what do you think ?

Electric buffer is definitely easier, but by hand usually gives better results (unless you know what you are doing and use a PorterCable or something). I use a crappy $20 buffer to put wax on the car, but use my hands for removing the wax, and rubbing compound and glazing.

i do the same as brrman. use it to put it on soley on the fact that its faster and easier to do it. If u get a good buffer (lik ethe one meguiers sells) and u know what ur doing then u will end up get better results.

the only thing i noticed is that the buffers give you buff lines, little shiny lines when the sun hits it right
but i was much happier when i went over the paint again with a dry rag in hand to get that off the best i could

the swirl marks you are referring to can be caused by using the wrong type of applicator.. you should really look into a quality pad that is super soft..
