does lowering my b5 have to equal rougher ride ?
i really want to lower my b5 ... however i am one that likes a smoother ride. so would i have to suffer if i lowered it? i only want to go about 1.5"-2" . i think thats about right. let me know what you guys think.
actually... no
it's not suspension travel... seeing as you don't bottom out on normal day driving. it's the spring rates. technically... you COULD drop the car AND have a softer suspension... but no company makes soemthing like that that i know of.
maybe the $20 coilovers on ebay are like that... being made of horrible materials...
but it's definatly not impossible

Neuspeed sells some lowering springs that provide a stock like ride. Check the catalog on the website. The "catalog" gives better descriptions than the regular website. I think the springs are the Nuespeed Sport Springs.
How are you not losing suspension travel? You have less travel, therefore the springs must have a stiffer spring rate. If it was softer you would bottom out. THe force of a spring = kx. k is the spring constant, and x is the distance, or travel. So you if x is decreased, k will be higher. (Stiffer)
i never said he wasn't losing suspension travel. i said that the ride stiffness has nothing to do with suspension travel. and yes, with less suspension travel you would think that the ride would be stiffer, but seeing as the stock suspension comes no where near bottoming out in corners, the aftermarket drop could still have a softer ride than stock and not bottom out. suspension travel has nothing to do with the ride stiffness. it may have something to do with how the spring rates are engineered... but the actul suspension travel does not effect the ride stiffness
I just got my coilovers setup done. Front is about 2", back is about more than 1.5" lower than the stock. Yes ride is different than stock but it does not bother me because different is just a little. If you pay more you can have more confort and low ride I think.
i'll go ahead and disagree again. the reason everyone has the stiffer rides, is because the manufatruers also tuned those suspension setups to have stiffer spring rates to have a more sporty feel and better cornering to go along with the better look. if they wanted to, i'm sure they could soften up the suspension... but if eibach did that, everyone would buy h&R
and yes... i can prove it. i'm going to a SVT suspension setup in the near future. the reason i'm going this route is because not only does it achieve an extra .02G on the skidpad... it's also a much tighter and better handling suspension setup. however, for looks, i would have gone eibach, seeing as the eibach is about a 1.7 - 2" drop, and hte SVT will only give me about... .5 - 1"... maybe 1.25
