Default Does this sound right?

I have a 1998 2.8 30v.
So i went to Merlin yesterday to see what they could do about doing a custom exhaust. So they put it up on the lift, The guy said that I have FOUR cats. I thought i only saw 2 ( i didnt even know i had that many, i thought i had one) He said " I have two big ones and then two small ones" Now for some reason that doesnt sound right to me. He said they could do some some custom piping but it only looked like it would be four feet of it...Does any of that sound right?

yes, you have 2 regular cats and 2 precats. you don't need the precats for emissions so you can get rid of them.. most feel that the stock 2.8 exhaust is sufficiant in size and just get a muffler. I.E.-magnaflow

You have 2 cats and two mid resonators. Removing the mid resonators and changing the muffler will give you a much better exhaust tone.

Yeah the guy claimed he couldnt take out the "mid resonators" because i wont pass emissions and he could get in trouble...

He isnt retarded, just unfamiliar with the exhaust setup, but he is within his rights not to remove what he believes are catalytic converters. Thats a hefty fine with possible jail time in the federal pen. You only have two cats. Those are resonators as stated above. They can easily be confused for cats thou.

Take the plates off, pull it in on a trailer and tell him its your track car and throw the old "cats" in the trunk.

Not a bad idea but i dont have a trailer. If i told him that they are resonators, would he still think its illegal for him to remove them??
