Default Downshift: 2nd to 1st

Does anyone ever have a problem when downshifting where it seems like your car doesn't want to go into 1st from second? The clutch pedal is all the way down, and it doesn't make any wierd noises... it just doesn't seem like it wants to go into the gear. I was driving today and noticed that it doesn't always want to go into the first gear gate. I haven't noticed any problems downshifting otherwise, and it doesn't seem to do this when the car is at idle. Am I just missing the gear? My car is 2001 1.8T, all stock.

that's normal....you can replace your snub mount. if it's old, that may improve shifting.

haha i just mentioned that in another post... I have the same problem, and in fact, same goes for my parents 2001 golf 1.8, and their 2002 a4, 1.8t.

I heard that upgrading the snub mount can make a difference with this problem... maybe an allroad trans mount as well? Somebody else chime in here... back up my babbling, or point and laugh.

that is correct sir, also check your tranny mounts...if they're worn, put in the allroad mounts.

I've had this problem from all different speeds (30mph all the way to 5). It really came to my attention today when I was driving over the speedbumps on my street. I slowed down to about 5mph with the clutch in and was just going to put it into 1st to get going again.

I haven't had any problems shifting into 1st or R at idle... don't know what to say.

I know the snub is an easy change when you do the T-belt... how hard is the tranny mount to get at?
there is a place that sells a 13 dollar snub mount... i think you mentioned it in another post, bent.
