downsides to a chip
I tried searching, but I couldn't find what I wanted, sorry if it's there.
But I was reading on a APR Chip review site where some guy said that with a chip, your O2 sensors, DVorB/OV and your brakes will all wear out sooner. now the DVorB/OV makes sense, and I know to upgrade that when you chip, but why would your O2 sensors or Brakes be affected? wouldn't your stock ECU setup be checking the O2 just as much, or do I not understand chips at all. and outside of driving faster and braking more, why would your brakes be affected. again, sorry if this is a redundant post.

the DV is an obvious one..
but as far as everything else the only real thing that the chip has a negative affect on is your turbo. it's going to be working a little harder squeezing more psi out of it which can and usually does shorten the turbo's lifespan.. and the only reason the brakes would be affected(can't beleive the guy would bring this up) is due to what you said. accelerating faster requires more braking.
other than that its all positive..

you shouldn't be braking faster just because you are accelerating faster. If you're going to be in a position to not be prepared to brake, you are just a bad driver.
The only downside to having a chip would probably be driving faster and getting speeding tickets, lol

Its how you drive - if you drive like a gradma your going to get better milage with a chip. But since a chip makes is so much more fun to crack your whip, gas mileage is going to suffer. So comparing your moms gas mileage to yours is not really comparable (unless your mom has a heavy foot too)
haha... my momma is pretty crazy in her mustang... =)
but her thing is she'll drive a stick like a 15 year old... she knows she can shift to a higher gear and drop the rpm's.... yet she chooses to roll at like 45 in third gear at like 3000 RPM.... ha... she drove my car last night... and was fascinated with the boost guage... ha
like i said... my moms crazy

Downsides to a chip:
You'll have less time inbetween shifts
You'll drive faster, which may hurt mpg/brake life/tires
You'll have to buy 93
Increased risk of speeding tickets
Your seats may wear faster as driver/passenger are thrown back in them
Bugs may stick to carbetter because of increased velocity at impact
Increased risk of spinning your tires by accident in the wet.
And last but not least,
You just might cream in your jeans the first time you punch it after being chipped.
