just bought the audi today....i was messing with the buttons
i pushed the left button on the gauge cluster
the top section of the DIS turned yellow and a symbol popped up, it was circular but i couldnt make it out because of course the lines were missing on the screen
it would eventually go off and then beep and come back on, and repeat that over and over again
i then pushed and held the same button and the symbol popped up again but with a line crossing it out (like no smoking symbol) and it went away for good
WTF was that symbol? what does that button do? we have no manual

 

Not sure, but it sounds like you set the speed limiter warning. Basically you can select a speed and if you go above it, a warning will beep. If you turn off the engine it will turn off.

if not moving, you may have just run the car thru its auto check, where it cycles thru all the warnings, checking them, ending w/an OK. if you were driving and pushing the buttons, the car makes that a no-no as you have to reach thru the steering wheel. it'll beep and flash while moving, go away when stopped thats the mph warning. freaked me out when i did that.

 

also, get yourself an owners' manual. it says things like, "due to today's advanced technology, you should take your car to an authorized audi dealer to change that 2 bolt easily accessable tail light bulb," but it also gives you all the stupid little info yuo'de never expect to need to control all the functions in these things. and welcome to the forum. yeah, you got the car.
