Drop in K&N compared to upgraded intake system
Seen a lot of discussion on the different types of intakes available for the b6 Audi A4 1.8T (Carb, Neuspeed, etc)...What I haven't really seen is a comparison between these and just a drop in K&N filter.
I understand the main fuction of the intake is to increase the sound of the dv and turbo, since the performance gains are minimal on these cars. So that being said, can just a K&N drop in filter compare to a $200+ intake?
Also is there an easy way to take the stock filter out? I got it apart, but didn't want to take apart the one connector that is attached to the airbox...

If your not looking for the sound, the drop in is probably slightly better performance wise until you go BT.
The stock airbox does a better job of getting cooler air than a cone filter, and will give a slightly better flow than stock with a drop in, which is all you need for the stock turbo.

There is one on Ebay (Ya I know Ebay is usually crap) but it seems decent..although I wish they could get that cone down to where a true CAI would be.
What would the sound be with the K&N filter only compared to a cone intake?

If you have a stock turbo I think you should be fine with just the drop in.
Not to hijack the tread but, All the after market performance drop in's are a PITA to put in. The clips on the side of the air boxes just will not close due to the harder rubber used on the sides of the air filter. Everytime I take it out to replace or clean I think about getting a whole intake system. But maybe it's just me...

Fine as in the sound will sound the same as the cone intake? Or I will feel the same kind of (minimal) gains? People say the airbox mod works, but that seems to be only for the b5...
