Default DV question

I just installed the APR R1 DV. I was really hoping to get the "sound", call me rice or what ever but I have just always been a fan of the whoosh. It is really no louder than stock. I am running 15psi with the diode mod and intake mod, do I need to get an actual intake kit to get the whoosh? or does it just vary depending on the DV?

A cone intake will definitely make the dv sound nice and loud. I currently have the airbox mod, but just ordered a K&N cone filter to do the diy above. My DV is very audible right now, and should get louder when I go with the CAI. Good luck

Also, some people here on the forums will call it a ricey noise, but they're also the first to jump on new things such as the forge splitter, which is purely for sound.

I don't want that bv sound, maybe I'm in the minority, but i've read about this dv & it seems to be the valve to get. In my trade, diaghram valves are alot more consistant than valves with springs.

Its not the valve that makes noise. BOV's that vent boost to the atmospheremake noise. 100% reciculating bypass valves (DV's) dont release any air to the atmosphere so there is nothing to hear. If you open up your intake by using a cone filter then the reciculating boost (back into the intake plumbing) is more audible.

yeah I know. I think I just need to try a cone ilter to see if it makes it more audible. There is a video in the stickie at the top of the forums of some one driving in a parking lot, I want my car to sound like that.

I am assuming he has a cone filter intake,

Yeah a cone filter is the only way to get that noise with a 100% recirculating DV. There is also a Forge Splitter Review sticky that is a DV/BOV that recircs about 85% and blows off 15% to atmosphere. I and a couple other members were given one for testing since the whole BOV debate is so heated when it comes to vag/audi/vw engines. So you can get that psssshhhhh noise with that valve without any intake mods. I switched my splitter back to 100% recirc because the PSHHHHHHHHH noise started to bother the **** out of me.
