Default ebay short shifter

for 40 bucks shipped you can get an ebay short shifter. for 2-300 bucks you can get a name brand short shifter. i compared the ebay kit i just bought to a friend's b&m kit and they're identical. b&m kit is over 200 bucks...the neuspeed and dieselgeek kits are a little different because they include some extra linkage components, but i haven't ever heard of the stock linkage failing, so i don't think it's necessary. as soon as i get it installed i'll post the results but from what i've heard they feel awesome.

there are benefits to the name brand ones too though. you get the company's customer service and support, as well as the store wherever you buy it from. with the ebay kit, you're pretty much on your own.

My wife got me one for x-mas. I had some fitment problems. If I did not us the T part to keep the shift lockout it was mostly fine. I drove like that for 3 days before I tore it apart to put it in. Scared myself pretty bad once when I almost threw it in reverse going 90.

the problem was that the part was a bit to small and would not "press" in like it was supposed to. It kept falling out. I had another short shifter before so I just put it back in and tossed the whole mess.

One thing to keep in mind. The clips that came with my kit deformed easily and were very cheap crap so be careful taking off your stock ones. You may need to reuse them on your new hardware. I liked the feel while it was in but it just wasn't worth losing my tranny. My other car is a 6 speed so sometimes I look for that extra gear out of habit.

Good luck.

Which one exactly did you buy? I am getting very tired of that huge throw in my a4. I am very interested to know if it works for you.

I have a neuspeed that I bought used for like 100 bones (canadian)... I am happy with it. I wouldn't have been happy had I paid 200+ US dollars for one.
