Default Encoding Sport Package Through VIN?

Hey guys/gals. I am looking at purchasing a 2001 Audi 1.8t with the sport package as soon as I can find a nice used one. My question is that I LOVE the sport package, and I want to be able to tell if it came stock from the factory with it. Is there a code in the vin to check for? I don't want to be fooled by a person/dealer that slapped some wheels on it.

Also what is all included in the sport package? I know it's the 17" rims, badged steering wheel, sport suspension, and red badge on the trunk. Anything else. Any help will be appreciated in advance.

the red badge doesnt mean its sport, the red badge means its a 2001 wit the 170HP engine instead of the 150HP in the 2000 and below

look for the color code sticker
and look for this code 1be which means it has sport suspension

and if your curious u can take down the codes and see all the option and add ons on the car
and match them here

Ok cool. I'll check that out when I look at the next car. I knew there had to be something to distinguish these features. Is the 2001 a good year to get as far as modification wise? I know some years are better than others depending on mod availability. I learned this from modding my Dodge Dakota R/T.

imo 99.5 is the best year, because it is post face-lift, but still drive-by-cable rather than dbw...

Do the chips really level the playing field like that? How much power does the chip really add?

Nice! They get pretty close for sure. I'd still stick with the 2001 for the 8 more hp :-) More power is always good. I've been reading a lot go with the chip and an upgraded DV. What do the DV's run?
