Default Engine mapping or chip upgrade

Just bought an A4 1.8T quat 163 bhp. Can anyone tell me should i change the chip or have the ecu re-mapped for better bhp. Also links for english websites please.

Hi,

Unless I am mistaken, I believe that chipping the ECU and re-mapping are pretty much the same thing. When the ECU is chipped, it basically means that the engine management computer is remapped in various different ways, usually to provide more power and improved drivability.
I don't know if the stock chip can be re-programmed or not, but several vendors will just install their own chip for you.

I think you talking about the same thing. Chipping and remapping are the same thing. The 2 best wellknown chips are Apr and Giac, there are other good ones too.

I have the GIAC chip and I am very happy with the gains. The nice thing about the GIAC chip is that it is hot-swapable with the stock chip, so it is very handy for warranty work or dealer work. I have taken my car in to the dealer running the stock engine chip (sooooo SLOW!!! and GUTLESS!), then I put the GIAC chip back in and I have a performance car again....
