Hey guys i have a 97 a4 2.8 12v quattro with 168k on it. I love this car but the mileage is startin to scare me. It runs great but im triyn to decide if an engine rebuild or purchaceing a new engine is something to look into and if sohow much would i be expecting to spend? anny suggestions would be great should i jsut let her go? or rebuild her and then start modding her. Shes pear white i kinda wanna change her color ya kno. But any ideas o nthat engine please let me kno!

Does the car smoke? Do you have to add oil between oil changes? Are there any probs with the engine, other than the mileage? If not, you don't have any reason to rebuild it. As far as modding goes, you have the 2.8 12v v6. Not too much potential, short of a 3-5k dollar supercharger, which then would probably require a rebuild. If you want to mod something, you should probably get a 1.8t. But if you really like your car, I would say stick with it.

 

There aren't even any supercharger kits for a 2.8 12valve. Those are for the 2.8 30 valve. The 2.8 is a very strong engine. I would just drive it until it falls apart.

tm2131, how many miles do you have? Has the timing belt been changed at the correct intervals?

 

Yea the engine seems pretty mint for having 168k no smoke oils not a problem and yes the timming was changed last spring along with most of the suspension. thanks for the advice guys.
