Default engine sludge

well here we go. my CEL came on and then my oil light came on and then my rpms dropped to zero and the car wouldnt start no more. Towed it to the dealer they looked at it and they opened the head and said that there was sludge on the cam train. They also said they were going to take the oil pan out to see if there is sludge there too. I the meantime theyre feeding me bullshit about audi replacing my motor at no cost because of the sludge. I just had to provide paperwork foro the oil changes. 2 days later he calls me and says that its not sludge that it is a cam bearing that was shot. Mind you that he showed me the sludge on the cam train. But that the pan and screen were clean. Now what do i do. do they still cover it? am i stuck with paying for anew engine or rebuild cylinder head?can anybody give me some advice before i flip out. oh i have an 02 a4 1.8t q.....

How do you know you need a new engine? There's no way to just fix part of it???

well the warranty ended 10,000 miles ago. Another option they gave me was that maybe they can replace the cylinder head. i dont knoe it seems to me that there is stuff theyre not telling me. Like why they went from sludge to just a bad cam bearing?why do cam bearings go bad anyway? sludge right. i was thinking that maybe i can get audi on negligance to discover the problem because i took the car in 2 weeks ago for an oil light and all they did was do an oil change.even though the oil was faily new and it was up to the right level. soit wasnt the sensor and it wasnt the oil that was low, that only leaves one thing left.sludge and they didnt look into it...so do i have a case here or am i just dreaming.?

It sounds like you may have a case against the dealer for negligence. Sounds to me like they didn't diagnose the oil light properly. How long have you had your car & have you been using synthetic in your 1.8t? If you do take the dealer to court, be prepared to show documentation of all your oil changes.

Take it to another shop for a second opinion.

Contact Audi of america (asuming you are in Canada or the US).

I am down for a possible sludging as well. I was told by the dealership that the cams don't have bearings. Unfortunately, I have one missing oil change around 40k. On the brightside I discovered that for $150 I can have the CPO warranty transferred and its good until July. $50 deductible to drop pan and check pump & screen as well as fix power steering leak, fix bad door sensor, fix gas tank leak, and possible bad seal in the the turbo. Could be the best $200.00 I will ever spend!!!

If you bought your used see if was ever a Certified Pre-Owned and transfer the warranty to your name. 2 more years of coverage and/or 100k miles whichever comes first.
