Engine trouble code
I previously posted about not being able to open my hood so I gave up and took it to the dealer and paid the $100!!
I have a 97' Audi A4 and my check engine light is on, so I took it to Auto Zone and got it diagnosed.
"Trouble code OBDII (ALPHA) P Code
P0116"
"The PCM has determined that the input from the engine coolant teperature sensor changed too little or too much for current engine operating conditions"
Can someone tell me how I can fix it?
Thanks!

RE: Engine trouble code
you need a new engine coolant temp sensor. you can buy one at a dealership for about 30-40 bucks, or you can buy one here for 6-15 bucks. you have to know what color your current sensor is, green or blue. don't take this to a dealer, it sounds like you're a dealer kinda guy. but this can be done by anyone. go here and click on the tenth tech article down.
btw, i spent alot of time looking for a blue or green sensor before i realized that mine was black. if yours is black, you need the green one.

RE: Engine trouble code
i'm pretty new to audis myself. this forum is an excellent place for do-it-yourselfers. i just assumed you were a dealership man because of the hood thing. i would think that's a fairly easy problem to solve. i guess i shouldn't be making assumptions...you're welcome though, good luck. i think the 30V v6 is the most difficult of the a4 engines to change the coolant temp sensor. it's pretty cramped in there with all the emissions lines and such.
