Default Engine type?

Buying a timing belt kit for my 99.5 a4 and need to know what engine code I have. I have my VIN but I have no idea how to find this code. Thanks

A4 1.8T engine code UK is ANB 1999-01 but the VIN should be the number asked for

the VIN doesn't give the engine code it only identifies the car

the VIN is all you need to order a part

Pop off your engine cover (takes 5 seconds) and you should find the letters AEB stamped on a tab on the corner of the head.
