Default Ethanol? Option?

Sorry to kind of post this twice, I didn't mean to jack another post below (GAS PRICE NO JOKE)

What's the deal with the Ethanol?

Can we (Audi's) use it?

I know it's cheaper, but what are the other pros and cons?

Ethanol Sucks!! Plain an simple. I live in South Dakota(it sucks dont ask) the heart of Ethanol country and a lot of people buy it. What those consumers dont know is the ethanol burns hotter, then in turn gets burned faster than regular gasoline so you get worse gas mileage. Audi does not look kindly at ethanlol because of this. The only benefit that I can see from their ads is that its made from corn(that I already knew) and that it grows back every year. And on that note, even though it does grow back every year the soil gets worn out so some day it has to stop. Dont use ethanol plain and simple. If you worried about gas mileage stick with Premium, studies show that it gets the best mileage.

I did reply this same thing almost to you post about gas prices

Check the other post i explained it a little better then Ethanol Sucks HAHA. I was also told that premium doesnt improve gas mileage. I had 2 brothers go to automotive school and all there teachers say that is the biggest load of crap. The also say you can put unleaded in yhour premium car and if it doesnt knock you are fine but if i get my car no way im testing that.

What I've been doing is, buying premium (89 octane @ $2.74/gal) . But every other tank I put in Super (93 octane @ $2.84/gal) .

Am I going F*** up my car??

from what im told is that the only thing that buying the best gas hurts is your wallet haha how lame. I suggest buying unleaded and buying "octane booster" at like target or even gas station. its only like 2 bucks and it will raise your 87 octane to like 95 or something. because if you pay like 12 cents more for 89 thats near 2 anyway for only the 2 higher but do what you want.

like all of us i too have weighed on the premium fuel question, my tank usually holds 14 gallons when i fill er up, so it costs me an extra $2.80 per tank to use premium (.20* 14), i figured there is no point in half assing it by buying 89 because you only get 2 actane for ten cents, premium you get 6 octane points for 20 cents... so getting gas twice a month it costs me an extra $6 a month to use premium, not a serious dent in my wallet, hell i spend more than that on fast food in one day!

and last but not least to convince me to put premium, well im driving an audi not a freaking kia!

Ethanol is a waste of time in cars that aren't designed for it. That 10 or 15 percent stuff doesn't save you any money at all. My fuel mileage drops when I use it in my car.

As for premium... I say go regular. Cars have a knock sensor that checks if there's pinging, IMO 87 won't hurt anything. If you buy the 93 stuff, you're wasting a lot of $$$ every fill up.

Dont listen to this post. Audi says use premium, use premium. Its not that big of a difference a couple bucks a tank isnt gonna kill ya. Approx 10 bucks extra a month saves you so much more than if something were to go wrong cuz you pussed out and used regular.

With our car, if you use regular gas when the turbo tried to kick in, the engine will start to knock. This is picked up by the knock sensors which then retards the timing and decreases boost, causing horsepower reduction, which kind of defeats the idea of having a turbo in the first place.

With regards to Octane Boosters, they are essentially a waste of money. A bottle of this will boost octane less than 1.
