Default Evo Vs. Carbonio...

Alright...So I have been looking into intakes for a 1998 A4 1.8TQ...and I have found that I really don't have much of a selection at all...now, K&N make an air filter, but...I have no faith in them...I like the Idea that carbonio doesn't use oil, but at the same time i have never had an intake system on the car...where I live i get ungodly ammounts of rain, and find myself in the snow quite often, I have worked the search deal on the forum, and found an interesting DIY approach, I think I'd rather go for something that does not force me to directly expose my box (haha) to the elements...so, I have read amazing things about both the evo, and the card...althought I have heard more good about the carb...so I guess I was just wondering what you guys with the 1.8T's are running, since...as far as I can see there are some real slim picK'ns....any comments would be greatly appreciated...oh, and at the same time have any of you sent your ECU to Renn-Art?...Is there any place local to me (California)...that may be able to chip same day instead of removing my ecu for two days?...

like I said any help would be greatly appreciated...

you will not feel any gain in performance from a CAI, most of us use an intake in order to get the woosh sound from the dv. You are better off doing the airbox mod located at the top of the page or making your own custom intake and heat shield. the carbonio is not worth the $359 for the 1-2chp is provides IMO, so if your going to choose between the two I would go with the evo.

intakes arent of much use

as far as the chip
go to the giac or apr website and find the closest dealer to you

Ok, went to GIAC website...nothing pre-1999 is even listed for an A4!!!!!...went to nearest dealer...which is currently in berkely....but I can get APR in Davis(would this be a wrong move?)...the extra 45 min drive definately couldn't kill me...but i'm guessing they are both closed due to the birth of jesus....so, the other idea is...I am one of those idiots who whants to hear my car go whoooshhh!!! so I am dead set on a bigger DV valve...possibly 710N, but the bailey's(I have no idea how to spell)...sounds to be a pretty good noisemaker(with intake)...so another Q would be...where would I find bailey's DV...I typed it into google a couple diff ways, but couldn't find any for sale...besides that is there a major diff. b/t apr and GIAC?...so I gess I just want intake to amplify spool and diversion noises (I know it sounds dumb, but I'm young, and making noise makes me smile)...after I am chipped...what will the turbo peak at...currently stock(7-8psi.?)...hoping for 12-15psi. (fingers crossed)...and not to worry, the guy who sold me the car had just replaced the K03 and some of it's components (I have receipts from Audi)....

again, thank you! any and all help is definately appreciated!

i have APR now and if i had to do it again i would go with GIAC. i like my APR but i have heard better things about the GIAC. if you get a chip then you will need to get a DV too. 710N would be your best bet. and intake with a GIAC and DV can be heard pretty well

I run a k&n drop in panel filter. Thats all you need until you go BT. Unless youfeel like dropping 300 strictly for the sound, get a $40 panel filter. It improves the airflow more than enough for the stock turbo. You really dont even need that until you are chipped. If you're chipped, it helps keep the turbo from running out of breath at higher rpms, like from 5000 to 6500.

Thank you all for your input!...so this is the plan as of now...GIAC, 710N dv, Evo (figure I just want it for sound not looks(save 100$)), and I now am left with 3 Q's... first would be...is there anyone out there who runs Apexi World Sport?...I run this on my Z3 widebody and it sounds amazing...just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?

http://www.modacar.com/products/Audi...ckexhaust.html

and the second question is, does the evo replace the stock intake hose? if not, is there one you guys would recomend?(I would like something a little less costly, but at the same time very dependable)

http://www.stratmosphere.com/a4_air_filters.htm

and the third would be...obviously the 710N will be the least expensive, by far...but I have still not been able to locate a bailey's dv!...so if anyone has a link thay would like to share that would be much appreciated!
