Yesterday I had my mid-muffler removed from my stock exhaust system. While driving around last night and today, I've noticed a nice, mellow note to the exhaust that is still almost stock quiet. But I also notice my turbo more. It seems a bit louder. Is it just me, or did removing the mid-muffler really help some? My 2.5" test pipe will be here next week so I'll try to have that in next weekend.

Also, has anyone ever straight piped their 1.8t? Is it stupidly loud? I kinda want to try that...

 

The exhaust does muffle up the turbo some also, not just the airbox. So your not crazy. There have been a few TT's and GTi's that have gone strait pipes. The are nice at wot, but horrible the rest of the time. A single magnaflow would help out alot or even just a small resinator would also.

 

I was thinking of getting one of the dual tipped magnaflow mufflers. I should run it when I get the stock muffler removed just to see how it sounds! Glad I'm not crazy, though!
