Default Fan won't go off - Stays on continuously

Good Evening All -

It's been a while, but I've run into a "problem" and I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not so I figure I'd bring it up to the panel of experts.

I've been searching and can't find anything really substantial on the fan in the engine. It turns on as soon as I rotate the key one click before starting and remains on until I shut off the car.

Should I be worried about this?

So far, I haven't noticed the temp gauge getting any higher.

I am in Oklahoma right now and we are having temperatures that are constantly above 100, but should this really be happening?

Thanks,

Russ

If you have your A/C or defroster on you will always have a fan running. Turn everything off and see what happens.

Its most likely just your radiator fan that has a short in it. you wouldn't see a heat spike becasue it ywould actually keep it cooler. Of coarse if you dont have an elecric fan in your car then this advice probably wont help. Don't know what model you have but I have 2000 1.8t and it has 2 fans one from teh crank and one electric

I've got a 99. Not the 99.5, so I'm not 100% sure. Funny thing is that I just had it at the Dealer (A Good 75 mile trip for me) and they didn't catch this. I'm not sure ... any more opinions floating around out there?

Is it a loud fan noise or more of a quite one. and have you tried turning the car to the on position and looking to see whats making the noise?

Turn off the Air conditioning and see if it goes off.

It's loud. Appears to the Radiator Fan. Hasn't failed to turn on and stay on the past couple days.

urn off the Air conditioning and see if it goes off.
No joy. I turn the A/C off and it remains on. I shut the car off (with the AC off) and flip the ignition pack on and sure enough it starts up before the car even turns over, so I'm assuming that it's an electrical fan.

your fan temp switch is probably bad them, pretty easy fix thou. that is if you really feel like fixin it, I would personaly leave it alone on my car.

Any particular reason to leave it alone? I'm just curious. If I were to replace, would I want to get the High, Medium, or Low? When it states controlling temperature, is that outside temperature they are referring to? Being that the High is only said to cover 95-84/102-91c

Thanks for all the help.

Is the car running OK? If it seems a little off, try the ECT sensor. Mine stayed on a lot and ran at high speed b/c the car thought the coolant temp was high. Once I got it replaced (DIY, $10), the car ran much better and the fan problem was gone. Something to consider at least.
