I just bought a 04 A4 1.8T Quattro, but it's even hard to beat Civic with standard transmission. Any friend tell me how to work on engine to win? Thanks

You shouldnt have... he clearly can't drive. A4's stock are slow as molasses!

Sounds like it is time to chip the engine. Check out the links at the top of the forum for performance parts. Then search the archives (search button) for more info.

Well, I maintain that a stock civic Si should beat a stock b5, with all factors equal.

Civic Si's have about 160 horse stock up to year 2000, but I'm not sure about the newer ones. Give or take a few horse difference between the two, a pre-01 1.8T has 150 hp. Now 10 horses isn't going to be the deciding factor, but WEIGHT is. A4's are heavy as **** and that's all there is to it. An Si weighs at least 1,500 pounds less than a hefty A4.

an 02 Si has 160 hp, and 132 lbs of torque... weighs 2744 lbs.
a 00 a4 has 150 hp, and 155 lbs of torque... weighs 3241 lbs.

So 500 lbs of added weight for the a4... plus way more drivetrain power loss.

Maybe the guy with the civic was afraid to wind it out... those things live over 6000 rpm.
