i am new to the forums and i have a few questions. first off i have a 97 a4 1.8t and i am wondering how much boost you can safely run on the stock engine and turbo?? next i want more boost looking to get a boost controller, an i use a manual boost controller??? i would also like to know what the best exhaust set up is out there for the 1.8t?? looking for a tone a little louder than stock but still quiet. last what chip is worth buying? looking into getting exhaust, chip, and intake i have a front mount intercooler from a previous project that i am going to use on this car. so any help on this would be great. thanks

 

i dont think you are ready for a boost controller
your car a manual
i say unless ur gonna upgrade the turbo dont bother wit a FMIC
peopel here like the GIAC chip
and if your gonna chip your car theres no point in the MBC casue the chip did all the work
and plus it has the correct fuel mapping and boost
and for exhuast look in to millteck(sp) or APR they are good names

thank you yes it is the sport and cold weather packages with the manual trans quattro. what is the stock boost pressure. what about a blow off/diverter valve? i previously drove a 96 maxima that i turboed it was fast. so any more info i can get would help alot thanks again

 

Well as you will find, almost every aspect of these cars are contoled by the computer, the chip is a must, and the rest of the upgrade kits are very well enginerred and do there jobs well. I'm affrade that if you try and piece it together you will be sadly disapointed and probably needing some $$$ to fix your problems.

 

I have a borla cat back exhaust and it sounds great. Be sure you go with a diverter valve not a Bov, our cars aren’t made to run with those. I think stock boost pressure is .8 bar or about 12psi, correct me if I’m wrong.

 

Stock boost is 7-8 lbs. GIAC chipped is 14-15 lbs.

There are people running 22.5 pounds on stock internals here but I don't know what the absolute max is.
