Few questions about A4
WHats up everyone. well my bro just picked up a 98 A4 2.8 quattro. he loves the car and so do i. I plan to get one as well. But we are both new to the audi side of the world. Both had hondas-i still do. But i did a few searches and didnt find what i wanted.
-well first off to swap an S4 engine i hear can be done but cost alot and might as well get an S4. ok thats cool
-now lookin for an intake for it right now. also what else can you do to this motor as far as bolt ons to get some more power. I know with the S4 there is a company that you send your computer to and retunes alot and you can get some serious power out of it. but i figured thats cuz they turn up the psi on the turbos. But is there anything like that for the A4.
-Also for exhaust systems. do they add alot. and is there a company that makes one that is quiet. Dont want anything that sounds ricy. something smooth sounding, quiet at regular driving, and nice sound when you get on the car but still not loud. and if anyone has a sound clip that would be awesome
-Sorry for all the questions but there is a ton i want to know. what is the chassy code of the car. B04?? and what is the engine code?
Well thanx alot for everyone that reads this. ANd thank you very much for helping me out.

RE: Few questions about A4
for a 2.8 get a supercharger.. very expensive, but fun and reliable
Since you havent gotten an Audi yet, get a 1.8T.. lots of mods for that.. because like you said its turbo and you can chip it.
Exhaust: there are plenty of options out there, I think Remus is the one of choice around here

RE: Few questions about A4
Remus is good for sound, but makes the lowest hp gains.
Borla makes a good kit, as does APR and miltek. Custom is popular as well, with whatever mufflers you dig.
But yeah, if you're itching to mod... or your brother is... he bought the wrong car. Short of the supercharger, there isn't much!

Search "intake" and you will find out what you need to know.
Don't get a 2.8 yourself; there are no mods apart from a 5G supercharger kit. Get a 1.8T version. Then you can chip it, which is the computer-sendy-deal you mentioned. You can go nuts on that engine.
The popular exhaust systems for the A4 are exactly how you described. Remus, Borla, Milltek, APR.
Chassis code of the 1996-2001 cars is B5, engine code varies. There's AEB, which is the non-drive by wire earlier 1.8T, the best variant for making power, and the AWM, the DBW engine from later cars. There's also more.

RE: Few questions about A4
1.8T is four cylinders. I guess the 1.8T has different springs in the front, some different stock wheels, I think leather wasn't available for the 1.8T, only leatherette, maybe some trim options. Basically the same. The 2.8 has a chrome window surround thing that is impossible to remove; that's how you tell a 2.8 from a 1.8T when all else fails.
Best year for modding is a 99.5 It is non-drive by wire, has the AEB engine, which is the strongest variant, and updated exterior features, like taillights, headlights, sidemarkers, etc.
