Ive been hearing a faint hissing from under the hood with the engine running for the past few months. Nothing obvious, but it was around the notorious L shaped vac line that breaks so often by the rear of the intake mani and valve cover, etc. Well after poking around I found it! I guess I poked too hard cuz the vac line that was attatched to the "non return valve" just broke off effortlessly. I could always move the hoses around and the hissing would stop or get worse, it was just impossible to pin point (till now). Its like a regular check/combi valve, but has a stem out the side of it for a 3rd hose to conect to. The stem is the part that broke off inside the hosethat is to the right of the valve. I guess im going to the dealer tomorrow for this one. Shouldnt be too expensive, I hope. Hopefuly when its fixed my car will feel faster haha.. probly not.

that sucks at least you found it. that whole area near the manifold seems to have problems. must be the heat.

 

I agree about the heat. It also looks to be like a poor design. I mean, what do they expect to happen to a puny little *** stem like that. Hopefuly i get some kind of updated beefier valve.. Probably not though. Weird thing is, vac reads normal on the boost gauge. No change at all. Well, i guess it has been leaking somewhat for the past few months so whatever im used to is normal.... But its right at 20vac where it should be..

 

Ah those little check valves are cheap, at the max it $20. They break all the damn time

 

wtf? I hope its not $20. Ill slap the parts guy accross his mouth he quotes me more than $10.

 

That i would pay to see! lol It is an audi factory part, the parts guys have to make money off you so they are gonna mark up the price, maybe you can push their buttons and get it for cheaper.

 

Ill be sure to take my digital camera with me then.. I use pay pal mostly btw.

 

Yeah i just checked the receipt on the same valve on on my 2001 S4, it was $24, with my discount it was $17.
