i have installed the testpipe and 2.5 downpipe my self, i was looking to get the rest of the exhaust custom and put a magnaflow muffler. so i take it to a shop guy puts it on a lift and says 250 for the piping and with putting the magnaflow muffler on with hangers. i say ok, but then he sees my test pipe, and says "your car is illigal i cant work on it." i laughed and said ok took it to meineke across the street from him and got it installed, got out and he was smoking a cigaratte outside i floor it passing by his store making sure he herd me. he probly felt like an idiot. but any ways i have 3 inch testpipe and 2.5 downpipe and rest 2.5 inches with no resenator, the exhaust sounds sweet its little loud but i got no problem with it. i felt the torque in the lower rpms and the car wants to move not its not sluggush this is what its cost me

testpipe 120
downpipe 250
magnaflow muffler-80
2.5inch piping 250

total of 700 dollars

local vw store quoted me 980 for the full exhaust system without the testpipe and wanted another 300 for the installation=1280 vs 700 - 580 dollars of saving[8D]

 

I am planning on doing a similar set-up soon so I was curious as to how it sounds. Is it obnoxiously loud and does it sound like a civic?

 

I can't respond to this thread because it is illegal, i know you are going to take this across the street to the guy that owns the t.t. and he will probably read it but... My shope... i mean my eyes do now work i mean read illegal posts...

What a poop eater, test pipe or not wouldn't his shop want to make your illegal car legal again? Im sure there are rules i dont know about (as per usual) and he could have lost his job which he could have gotten a new one across the street over at the place that was actually cool enough to take the test pipe out and install the proper exhaust so the sweet ice caps and icebergs don't melt and we dont have mass floods everywhere... man, the guy at the mom and pop shop was so short sighted, instead of helping the environment he'd rather tell you no and smoke cigarettes out front and let 'the competition ' get your business. I am no hippie but I didn't even mention the fact that him smoking and not fixing your exhaust makes me think he hates the earth... what an a hole, who hates the earth?

I hope he gets a light burn on a knuckle tomorrow turning a wrench on a hot engine....

It IS illegal guys - Places can get HUGE fines if they get caught - It's federal law...

 

its not all about the exhaust system, the motor matters too, in order for you to get a civic sound on a german motor, you have to put one of those huge round shaped muffler like this

 

I plan on doing a straightpipe out the back so there wouldn't be a muffler. I definitely wouldn't put a fart can on my car.

 

a pic of muffler or part # would be appreciated, how big of a PITA was the downpipe install?... If you have the ability to get a sound clip or vid that would be awesome!

sweet mod dude, i know on my previous turbo cars a full turbo back exhaust gave me a very nice boost of power. I know audi's dont respond to turbo back exhausts as well as other turbo cars but it still is a must need mod if you plan on making any serious power at all... congrats and rep the 1.8's with style and grace, cuz a modded 1.8 actually has respect on the street, my 2.8 is about as fast as a stock turbo dsm. lol
